I am doing research in to the thriller film audience in preparation for my thriller film opening. Hopefully this research will enable me to understand the audience better and be able to accurate execute what the audience expect through my film opening. This research will aim to find out:
1. The audience’s expectations from a Mainstream/Independent film.
2. How the audience prefer the characters to be presented e.g. costume, dialogue, traditional roles?
3. What kind of setting or location would the audience prefer in their thriller?
4. Do they prefer to have background music or just a voiceover?
5. Do they prefer the thriller film to have special effects?
This research will be carried out through questionnaires, or possibly through screenings of different films and get feedback, alternatively this could be done with sound clips and ask people what they think of the sound clip.
I expect to find out that people would expect an independent film to have more realism, and have more controversial roles than the usual, stereotypical views, and also to have less special effect due to having a lower budget and less money to spend on special effects and this also includes sound/music.
Also I expect the audience to believe that mainstream films have more stereotypical ideas and follow the generic storyline and give the audience what they expect. Also they would expect to see a high profiled location used in the film such as Paris, London etc. The film itself will probably be expected to tackle the traditional roles from its characters.
