I wanted to research into thriller films and what the audience prefer to see in a thriller. So I looked into sub-genre's and how this influences the audiences expectations. i wanted to find out which type of thriller they would prefer, whether its a crime thriller and superhero thriller or a sci-fi thriller. I showed different trailers of different thrillers to see which one the audience would prefer.
A crime thriller - The Dark Knight
This type of thriller mainly targets the ideas of morality and good versus evil. Usually there is a villain and a superhero out to save the world. A murder or bad deed usually takes place, guns and explosions are also incorporated. The clue is within the title because the main element of the sub genre is the solving of a crime.
A suspense/drama thriller - There will be Blood
A suspense thriller is the building of suspense through drama and possibly deceit this later unravels and
and allows there to be some sort of thriller element. These involve a lot of character development and also
a lot of plot twists. A mixture of a thriller and a drama film.
An action thriller - The Transporter
For an action thriller there is a large amount of weapons such as guns used, lots of car chases and explosions.
There is some sort of race against time element which means they are usually face paced. Large set
pieces and settings for the action scenes.
A religious thriller - The Da Vinci Code
>
This is when the thriller itself is closely related to religion or religious symbols and institutions. There is
also the idea of mystery as religion can be explained as a mystery.
A psychological thriller - Stranger on a Train
This is when before the physical pain inflicts the conflict between the characters is emotional or mental
and displayed psychologically, to do with the mind and not actions.
